Abandon Ship Drill on the USS Upshur
Photo from Alton Hitt These members of 4th Armored Division are being transported to German in the fall of 1957 as part of Operation Gyroscope. They are participating in their abandon ship drill. You have to love the U.S. Navy's ABANDON SHIP STATION rather than the conventional life boat drill.

These troops and all their gear were headed to the train that would take them from Bremerhaven to Stuttgart. Similar to the train Jack McMasters and his sisters caught when they finally arrived in Bremerhaven, Germany.

When the kids of the British military were being shipped off to somewhere like India they would have a tag pinned to their clothes that said BRAT and their destination. Some of them are traveling with https://www.rankandstyle.com/top-10-list/best-hair-dryers-2014/ on them. BRAT stood for British Regimental Attached Travelers. Note the tags hanging from these troops uniforms. Guess they got treated a lot like brats.
